The History of Diamonds

  • The History of Diamonds

Diamonds have a long history as objects of desire. A diamond has to go through quite a lot before it takes the final form we are so familiar with today. It forms deep in the earth under extreme heat and pressure, and then pushed to or near the Earth's surface and then collected by man. Afterward, it's cleaned, cut and polished. It is said that people's love affair with diamonds began as early as the 4th Century BC in India. Diamonds were collected in the country's streams and rivers. Because of trade, merchants traveling to India were exposed to the beauty of diamonds and brought them back to the market places of Venice. By the 1400s, diamonds started to become popular accessories throughout Europe.
